Butterflies and Tracing Hands

I think that learning to trace things is not only a good way to learn how to draw, but it helps develop fine motor skills and helps young kids handwriting improve too.  Today we traced butterflies and painted them in with the sticky, goopy, and fun corn syrup and food coloring.  The kids really enjoyed it and I love how bright and fun they all turned out.  Aren't they pretty for Spring?

Next we traced our hands and decorated them with a lot of personality.  I'm so proud of my little Preschoolers.  I am so glad that most of these kids will be continuing on in my art class next month.  I will miss the students that don't continue.  I love having all these darling kids around creating art.

I love all the fun details.

I love how only the fingers are colored in on this one.

I love that these hands have smiling faces on them.

I love the sunshine at the top of the page.

Tracing and Rainbow Fish

This week in my Preschool Art classes we are practicing tracing.  I drew fish on each child's paper in pencil and had them trace it in black marker.  We then painted our fish bright colors using Corn Syrup mixed with food coloring.  I love the end results.  The corn syrup will dry smooth and shiny and gives the fish texture.

Look how fabulous my students work turned out.

"Free Time" Art

Some of my favorite art that my students create is when a student finishes our main project earlier than the rest so I let them do their own "free time" art.  They always come up with something wonderful.  Here are some from last week.
I love this flower.  (preschool class)
 "Colorful Rocks" (preschool class).

"Monkey with a Striped Hat" (age 5)

"Dinosaurs"

Monsters

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy teaching my art classes?  I love all my students.  They are all so creative and it is fun to watch how excited they are while creating art.  I guess you can say I was in the mood for monsters last week because that is what we did in most of my classes.

In my preschool classes we made "splatter monsters".  We watered down our paint and put a few blobs on our paper.  We then took a straw and blew the paint across the paper to make these fun montsters.

I love this sweet and simple montster.  So cute.

In my K-8 Intro to Art class we learned to draw monsters.  It's always fun to see how different each drawing turns out.  Aren't these great?

I think the eyes on this one are fabulous!
 Look at all the detail.
I love the fur on this one!

Drawing with Markers

Last week (wow, has it already been a week?) we had some fun making things out of salt dough and then we drew pictures using markers.  I love how these pictures turned out.

Salt Dough & Mosaics

Today in my Preschool Art class we played with salt dough.  We smashed it, rolled it, made it into long ropes, and finally made it into fun objects.  We will let it dry and then next week we get to paint them.
Here is what these cute kids ended up with.

Next we learned about Mosaic Art and tried making our own.  I love how bright these colors look on the black paper.  We had fun getting our hands sticky with glue.

Self Portraits

I have to start off by saying how much fun I had last week.  My art students are so wonderful.  They all have such fun personalities and I am grateful to be able to help guide their creativity!  Last week we learned that you can make any color using Red, Yellow, Blue, Black and White.  We then drew self portraits and painted them in with all of our newly mixed colors.
